Hello and happy 2013! 2012 was a fantastic year for us. Thanks for all the amazing support. We celebrated our 100th market at the November night market, see the slideshow below. Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday 13 January as we kick off the new year.
PS This year will bring some new ventures from the Market on Main team, details coming soon!
October 23rd, 2012
Every Sunday at Market on Main, from 12 to 1:30pm, a guest brings their living room to our living room by playing some of their favourite weekend tunes.
If you would also like you to be part of our series of living room sets, then we would love to hear from you. You don’t have to be a professional dj… you just have to really love your music, and know your market…
Drop us a mail with a one liner describing your Sunday music vibes, a link to your facebook profile if you have one, and the Sunday you are available.

Last night’s winter night market wasn’t too chilly at all, even though we thought it night be… The vibe was awesome and Arts on Main was chilled and vibey all at the same time. Performing outside were Earl Grey and Croquet and inside we debuted our warm cocktails which we’ll definitely carry on serving throughout winter. Check out the pics below and see you at the next Night Market on Thursday 7 June 2012.

This was a one night stand not to be forgotten. Joburg is back, did the holidays even happen? Performing on our stoep was the sublime B-traq. Such a pity though that their set got weathered out halfway. We will definitely rain check with them later on in the year. Check out the pics below to wet your appetite for the next night market happening on Thursday 1 March 2012.

Hello 2012 and welcome to Joburg! The first market of the year was fresh, full and fun. (It also happened to be our 50th market since we launched last January!). Everyone was sun-kissed and chilled from the holidays, let’s hope it stays that way! See the slideshow below for some of our favourite shots, and see you this Sunday.

Our fourth and final Night Market for the year will happen just 24 nights before Christmas! (Thursday 1 December 2011)
If the last three Night Markets were anything to go by, this one will be magical!
The LivingRoom DJ for the night will be none other than Babaganush, aka Michael Balkind, the JHBMan behind JHBLive and Contentbar.
On our Stoep we welcome Translate, a sensual and iconic d’art duo, the project of Jozi based talent, Larah Eksteen.
This won’t be a silent night!

After the massive success of the Spring Day Night Market, we will now hold night markets on the first Thursday night of every month. “Night Time is the Right Time” was in October, it was loads of fun, check out the photographs in the slideshow below. This Thursday 3 November 2011 we will be having our third night market, you can get all the details about the theme and our performers right here!

After the massive success of the Spring Day Night Market, we are holding night markets on the first Thursday night of every month. Night Time is the Right Time for having fun and enjoying Joburg’s summer nights. If it rains, we move the whole market inside.
Our live entertainment on our Stoep is Jozi’s latest find, The Fridge, a neo-jazz band that forms its sound from the urban space it was conceived in. Their unconventional approach to jazz is risky, sophisticated, easy and refreshing.
In our Living Room we welcome ‘digestif’, aka Adrian Loveland, director of the hugely successful Unhinged: Surviving Joburg. If you think his film is quirky, wait ‘til you hear his music!

Our Living Room guest inside the Market is Joburg’s favourite time-machine DJ, The Klassikist

Our guest DJ, from the stage & screen to our Living Room, was the lovely Lindie Matshikiza
Jozi based photographer Jeannette Verster was there and sent us these awesome photos.

Nathalie Boucry visited Market on Main, and submitted these awesome photographs. They really illustrate the look and feel of the market and give a real sense of the vibe and offerings. Thanks Nathalie.

How lucky are we to have such sunny winters in Joburg? The turnout these Sundays at Market on Main is evidence that a mild chill makes for a cool time in the city. Johannesburgers clearly like to be out and about, all year long.
Roxy Pearce, aka Citygirl, sent us these awesome photos of Sunday’s market. She describes Market On Main as having a “modern, city-slicker atmosphere… as it should being a Market by Joburg for Joburg. Definitely worth a visit (*just make sure to go hungry!).”

Last Sunday at Market on Main there was a magical vibe. Probably due to a combination of the sunny Joburg winter sky, the weekend after payday, the beautiful Joburg people, and the all time favourite tunes of multimedia artist Kudzanai Chiurai, who was our living room guest DJ.
Hanneke and The Handsome Team sent us these great photos of Sunday’s market. Check out their amazing blog HandsomeThings that features their selection of South African Art, Design and Handmade Goods

The highlight of last week’s market was definitely the re-launch of the design section. Watch the slideshow below and see how sexy it has become upstairs at Market on Main!
Our special guest in the living room was artist Stephen Hobbs.
Also - every Sunday after the Market the 12Decades Rooftop-Bar opens. Prepare for the week-ahead with cocktails, a BBQ, a DJ, and the most sensational views of the city. Sunday nights will never be the same again! Sure beats staying at home to watch Carte Blanche.

Market on Main on Mothers Day was loads of fun. We had a few first-time stallholders, including HariHaris Vegetarian Cuisine, and a sensational new sushi stall. Our special guest in the living room was journalist, dj and mom Andrea Nagel.
We are excited to introduce the talented photographers from IWasShotInJoburg to the MoM family. Check out their impressions of the market below, and look here to see if YOU were shot in Joburg. If you weren’t, they will be back at the market every Sunday.

Market on Main was closed on Easter Sunday but we are working on Workers Day so see you there this weekend!
A fortnight ago we enjoyed some new stallholders, the return of the Starving Artist, sublime sounds from guest DJ Talie from NYC, and an amazing Jozi chalk drawing by illustrator Lorne Schnugh. Photographer E. Dundee sent us these pics.

The tenth Market on Main was very festive! Brad Kirschenbaum from Love Jozi sent these shots straight from his iPhone (and some app). His highlights included the Brazilian guest DJs in the Living Room, the Sage Pesto and Feta pancakes, Marion & Lindie, a vintage New York t-shirt, and - you better believe it - olive flavoured nougat.

Every week there is something new at Market on Main. New stalls, new products, new ideas, new faces. Here is some new eye-candy from last Sunday…
New stall - About Olives
New faces

There’s nothing magic about these mushrooms. Just buy this beautifully designed package and grow your own at home.
We were completely stung by this highly innovative packaging from Kelly’s Revenge
Meet João.

New last week was the first in our series of curated DJ sets. Every Sunday from 12-1:30pm a guest artist will bring their living room to the atrium of Arts on Main and play you some of their favourite songs. Starting things off was musician, composer and artist João Orecchia.
New stall - DJ PhatJack doesn’t only spin sublime tunes, he also makes delicious TexMex snacks and meals.
Sit! Then you can Eat Your Heart Out!
Looking very Canadian.
What are those?

Here are a few pics of some things we noticed for the first time last Sunday at the market. From the Market on Main / Maboneng info centre to the most unreal locust on one of Avant Gardener’s plants. From wholesome dog biscuits at Eat Your Heart Out to the free WiFi during market hours.
Every week the market grows, it’s fun and exciting.

Anther great Maboneng Sunday. We had some new stallholders added to the always evolving market. Irish musician David Delaney teamed up with Nancy Ginindza, a stunning vocalist from Swaziland, and the vibe outside was sunny and relaxed.
